What is it? Started in 2007 and modeled after the hit reality show, “Dancing with the Stars,” Stars Dancing for HEALS features eight Stars from our community dancing with local ballroom instructors to raise funds for HEALS (Health Establishments at Local Schools). The gala event will be held on November 2nd at 5 0′clock in the evening at Monaco Pictures in Bridge Street Towne Center for ticket holders and sponsors. I am honored to have been chosen this year to participate in the event!
How does it work? Each Star collects donations (votes) and corporate sponsorships for HEALS to reach a fundraising goal. Every dollar donated to HEALS counts as one vote. The Star who raises the most money (votes) for HEALS wins the ‘Top Champion for Children” award. Our audience at Monaco Pictures will select one Star as the ‘Crowd Favorite’ on the night of the event. You have the opportunity to vote online now for your favorite, and I sure hope that’s my friend, Ginger!
What can you do?My friend, Ginger Harper, is training hard to be the best dancer she can be to help make the HEALS event a success, but she needs your help to be the Top Champion for Children. Please help her achieve her goal by making a donation to HEALS in her name. Your donation helps to provide accessible quality, school-based primary health care for children through collaborative efforts with the Huntsville City/Madison County school systems and the medical community. By providing on-site medical and dental care, mental health counseling, and social services at our participating schools, HEALS, Inc. makes an immediate difference in the lives of many children; by helping a generation to take responsibility for their health we affect future generations, having far reaching effects. I’m hoping that the fabulous group of eight 2016 Stars will have the most successful fundraising campaign to date, and this is why:
HEALS makes a long-term national impact
In these times of health care reform, and much uncertainty on the national stage, HEALS is a real solution, right now. It is undisputed that early intervention and health education lead to lower lifetime medical costs.
HEALS makes a positive impact on our community
Healthy children learn better at school and have lower delinquency rates. Children who have a medical home where they are nurtured and supported are more likely to succeed in school, and in life. Children who receive positive attention and who are given ways to take positive control of their lives are more likely to exhibit better behavior in school and in the community.
HEALS makes an immediate impact
Children who have a medical home do not go to the Emergency room for routine care. Therefore, children get high quality continuity of medical care, and fewer tax dollars are required to subsidize ER visits.
Take this opportunity to invest in our future through HEALS!
